Most of us did not know about this, over the confirmation of Cisco that they are killing Flip Video brand, closing down business and stopping production of all models.

"Stop the business instead of selling was the best course of action," that is according to Cisco's global head of public relations on Tuesday in response to some question made about why the sudden decision was made.

This dramatic move, made the company to cease all production of Flip Video products worldwide, but has previously said that it will support the company FlipShare service for existing customers, while formulating a “transition plan."

"We are making key, targeted moves as we align operations in support of our network-centric platform strategy," as stated by John Chambers, President and CEO of Cisco. "As we move forward, our consumer efforts will focus on how we help our enterprise and service provider customers optimize and expand their offerings for consumers, and help ensure the network's ability to deliver on those offerings."

As they was asked if the division of Flip Video is not earning, they side track the response, perhaps suggesting that the pocket camcorders are rapidly lost to mobile phones having video recording capability of 720p.

They once said that Cisco will focus on its core products and services continue.

Enormously popular Flip Video business was bought by Cisco a couple of years ago.

Is there a future for handheld camcorders, taking into consideration that smartphones can record HD video? What do you think?
