Many thinks that Nikon and Canon are slowing down clinching latest technology in similar way as Sony and different players like Samsung, and now its affecting their market share.

When you consider of the top two camera manufacturers in the UK, you wouldn’t be wrong for thinking Canon and Nikon. Based on the recent GfK research for the UK market, it has been found out that Sony has been working and grabbed the number two spot from Nikon in terms of changeable lens cameras.

“Sony is overtaking Nikon in terms of number of sales of interchangeable lens models for last December 2010 cutting up 25% than Nikon's 20%,” based on statistics. This maybe surprising to most but it seems that Sony’s hard work and development is now getting paid off.

According to Rachel Banin, head of Digital Imaging, Sony UK "achieving number 2 position in the December GfK data for DLSR cameras is a fantastic milestone for Sony," "We recognize the challenge in maintaining this position in a very competitive marketplace, but we can see from the data that it indicates acceptance of compact system cameras and a rapidly changing market dynamic in the UK".

"Sony’s NEX-3 and NEX-5 allow anyone to easily achieve professional quality pictures and movies they can be proud of using a very small camera. We’re really excited that consumers are recognizing the value of these cameras and choosing to buy them".

There is a rumor that Nikon will launch mirror less camera later this year. But, whether that is enough to get back into the action is yet to be seen. One thing for sure, Sony is now setting its spot on Canon for the 1st place.
